Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova is scheduled to host her French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot in Varna on 24 October. Security in the Black Sea is a central item on the announced agenda.

A partnership with a new roadmap

The programme includes talks on European security, closer bilateral cooperation and other international issues. The ministers are also expected to sign an updated roadmap under the strategic partnership declaration established in 2008. That document provides the framework for the relationship; the announced update is intended to set out its next steps.

Why Varna matters

The two ministers are scheduled to visit the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy. The choice of a Black Sea city places the maritime dimension of European security at the centre of the visit, alongside the broader diplomatic relationship between Sofia and Paris.

An announced programme, not a completed agreement

At the time of this report, the verified official material describes the visit’s programme. It does not provide the outcome of the talks or confirm that the roadmap has been signed. Any concrete commitments, funding or implementation deadlines must be assessed against the documents released after the meeting.
