Train movements through Sofia Central Station were suspended from 11:55 on 24 October after a locomotive’s pantograph broke during shunting. The fault interrupted power to the overhead contact network, and emergency teams were sent to repair the damage.
Which services are affected
Suburban passenger trains 50283 and 50280 on the Sofia–Pernik–Sofia route were cancelled, along with services 10221 and 10224 between Sofia and Kostenets. Diesel shunting locomotives were assigned to move other train formations to neighbouring stations.
No confirmed full restoration
The latest checked reports describe repair work and temporary arrangements. No subsequent confirmation that normal traffic had been fully restored was found in the public sources reviewed. The use of diesel locomotives allows some movements, but is not equivalent to a return to the normal timetable.
Before heading to the station
Passengers should check the status of their specific train through BDZ before travelling. A service may be cancelled, delayed or depart under a temporary arrangement. The immediate issue is today’s power interruption, rather than a newly announced long-term closure of the station.
