Grigor Dimitrov lost to Paraguay’s Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in the first round of qualifying at the Paris Masters on 31 October. The Bulgarian went down 6–7 (3), 6–4, 3–6 after a match lasting close to two and a half hours.
The defeat ends his attempt to reach the main draw of the season’s final Masters 1000 event. Dimitrov had received a qualifying wild card, an invitation that gave him a place in the preliminary competition rather than direct entry into the main tournament.
He forced a deciding set by winning the second, but Vallejo regained the advantage in the third. The three-set score reflects a contest in which Dimitrov remained in contention after losing the opening tie-break, without being able to complete the turnaround.
Paris has previously been a major stage for the Bulgarian: he reached the final in 2023. This year the starting point was different. The tournament listed him at world No.124 in its 26 October ranking snapshot, explaining the significance of the qualifying invitation.
The event’s qualifying rounds take place on 31 October and 1 November, with the main-draw singles competition scheduled for 2–8 November at the Plenitude Arena. Dimitrov’s elimination came before that main competition began; it was not a first-round defeat in the main draw.
The result closes his Paris campaign and leaves the assessment of the next stage of his season separate from a single match. It establishes neither a new injury nor a retirement decision. The confirmed sporting outcome is Vallejo’s progression and Dimitrov’s exit from qualifying.
