Porter Airlines has begun the first of four new seasonal international routes from Edmonton, opening a nonstop connection to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico on 3 November. The launch marks the carrier's first international service from Alberta and starts a wider November expansion into Mexico and the United States.
Phoenix follows on 6 November, while Los Cabos and Las Vegas are scheduled to start on 16 November. All four routes use the 132-seat Embraer E195-E2. They are separate launches across the month, rather than four services that have all already started.
More choice from Edmonton
Puerto Vallarta is scheduled three times a week. Los Cabos and Las Vegas are listed at four weekly flights each. Porter's announcement lists Phoenix at a peak frequency of daily service; that should not be read as a promise that every week from launch has the same timetable.
For travellers, the practical change is the addition of direct options from Edmonton to established holiday destinations. A nonstop journey can remove a connection, but departure days and the return schedule still determine whether it works for a particular trip.
The aircraft is only part of the booking
The E195-E2 has a two-by-two seating layout, so there are no middle seats. Porter includes onboard Wi-Fi and refreshments in its economy offering, but the final cost of a trip also depends on the fare purchased and any baggage or change conditions attached to it.
The new routes are seasonal. Travellers planning a longer stay should check both outward and return availability rather than infer year-round service from the November launch. Flight times and frequencies can also change after an initial schedule is announced.
The expansion broadens Porter's reach from western Canada and puts more of its network into the winter holiday market. For passengers, the useful comparison is the full itinerary and fare conditions, not simply the fact that a new route appears on the departure board.
