Porter Airlines' new nonstop route from Ottawa to Oranjestad, Aruba, is scheduled to begin on 7 November. It opens a sequence of four winter routes connecting the Canadian capital with destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico.

Montego Bay in Jamaica follows on 25 November, Providenciales in Turks and Caicos on 17 December and Los Cabos in Mexico on 18 December. The latest airline announcement lists peak frequency of three weekly flights to Aruba and two weekly flights on each of the other routes.

Those are route launch dates and peak frequencies, not a promise that every service operates daily or that all four have already started. Passengers should check the schedule for their specific travel dates.

A larger southern network

The additions sit alongside Porter's existing services from Ottawa to destinations including Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, Grand Cayman and Liberia. The carrier says its winter flying from Ottawa to Mexico, the Caribbean and Costa Rica will increase by more than 80% compared with the previous year.

The routes use 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft with two seats on each side of the aisle. That describes the planned aircraft configuration rather than a guarantee against operational substitutions.

For travellers connecting from elsewhere, the practical questions are the complete itinerary, baggage conditions and whether connections are protected on one booking. A new nonstop route from Ottawa does not create a direct flight from Bulgaria, and advertised frequency should not be confused with a confirmed seat or fare.
