SWISS has launched a nonstop service between Zurich and Bengaluru, adding a third Indian destination alongside Delhi and Mumbai. The inaugural LX140 departed Zurich at 13:34 on 27 October, and the airline says the route will operate five times a week.
The connection targets a city with a large technology and business sector, as well as travellers visiting family or exploring southern India. Its significance is not simply another pin on the route map: a nonstop flight removes an intermediate connection for passengers travelling between Switzerland and Bengaluru.
The airline describes the route as an investment in its long-haul network and Switzerland’s international connectivity. That is the commercial rationale; the announcement does not establish how demand or profitability will develop after the initial launch.
For travellers starting elsewhere in Europe, Zurich becomes another possible connection point. The useful comparison is the complete journey, not just the long-haul flight: connection time, baggage conditions and the terms attached to the selected ticket can change the practical value of the route.
Five flights a week does not mean a daily service. Travellers should check the actual operating dates and the return itinerary before arranging hotels or onward transport. A new air connection also does not remove passport, visa or other entry requirements.
The launch took place on 27 October, rather than on the publication date of this article. It adds a concrete travel option to an India network previously centred on Delhi and Mumbai, with Bengaluru offering a different starting point for business visits and journeys through the south of the country.
