The development

NATFIZ theatre and film academy students protested again on 22 October, marching to the Education Ministry. Alongside rector Miroslav Dachev’s departure, they called for minister Georgi Valchev to resign, NOVA reports. [1]

The details

BNT reports the ministry’s response that it takes the questions seriously while stressing university autonomy. Protesters’ allegations about management should not be presented as completed investigations or finally established violations. [2]

Context

Academic autonomy does not remove accountability for public money and conditions of study. At the same time, a ministerial statement cannot automatically resolve an internal university dispute. For students, the outcome also involves a functioning academic programme, transparent decisions and clear deadlines.

What comes next

The practical milestones are written commitments, published documents and verifiable steps by the academy and ministry. Continued demonstrations are not, by themselves, evidence of a solution. The archive photograph shows the Education Ministry, not the 22 October march.
