Ben Shelton defeated Cameron Norrie 6–3, 6–4 in the second round of the Rolex Paris Masters on the evening of 3 November. The American advanced to the round of 16 after preventing a British comeback late in the second set.
Norrie recovered a break to level that set at 4–4, but immediately lost his serve again. Shelton then closed the match. The result ended Norrie's singles campaign in Paris after he had beaten Matteo Arnaldi in the opening round.
The short opening disappeared
The second set briefly offered Norrie a way back. Drawing level removed Shelton's early advantage, but the next service game restored it. In a straight-sets match, that sequence leaves little room for a second recovery.
A set score alone does not describe every rally, but the timing of the decisive break explains why the comeback did not develop into a third set. Shelton held his position at the moment the match could have become more complicated.
More than one story in Paris
Casper Ruud also advanced with a 6–3, 6–4 win, beating Rafael Jodar. The tournament reported that Ruud's result secured Flavio Cobolli's place at the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin. Paris therefore carries significance both for its own trophy and for the closing qualification race.
The evening also included a tribute to Gael Monfils, adding a farewell moment to a programme shaped by competitive stakes. These were results and events from Tuesday, rather than a forecast of Wednesday's matches.
For Norrie, the next major team commitment is the Davis Cup Finals later this month. For Shelton, the immediate task remains the next round in Paris: a controlled opening win creates an opportunity, not a guarantee of a deep run.
