The business behind the market
Nasdaq, Inc. reported $1.481 billion in third-quarter net revenue, up 13% from a year earlier. Solutions revenue reached $1.172 billion, up 17%, while Market Services net revenue grew 2%. These are the company’s results, not a measure of the Nasdaq stock index’s performance. [1]
Recurring does not mean guaranteed
Annualized recurring revenue reached $3.365 billion. Nasdaq explicitly says ARR is not a forecast: contracts included in the measure may not be renewed. It should not be confused with revenue already recognised during the quarter or added to quarterly sales. [1]
Context: infrastructure earns differently
A market operator can sell technology and information as well as provide trading services. These activities need not move at the same pace as daily market turnover. The segment split helps readers see where growth comes from without assuming that a strong quarter means investors in every listed company benefited.
The next test
Future disclosures will show whether the faster-growing services retain customers and sustain growth. Comparisons should preserve the distinction between reported and adjusted measures and between a quarterly flow and an annualised indicator.
