Comcast shrinks. Peacock finds its footing.

Comcast reported third-quarter revenue of $29.298 billion, down 6.1% year on year. Its pro forma comparison showed growth of 0.5%. The figures describe different comparison bases; presenting only one would obscure the distinction in the company’s 22 October release.

Two different readings

Comcast reported third-quarter revenue of $29.298 billion, down 6.1% year on year. Its pro forma comparison showed growth of 0.5%. The figures describe different comparison bases; presenting only one would obscure the distinction in the company’s 22 October release. [1]

Peacock’s milestone

Peacock reported $261 million in adjusted EBITDA and 48 million paid subscribers. Adjusted EBITDA is not net profit. The streaming figures should therefore be read alongside the group’s reported accounts rather than treated as proof that every cost of the service has been covered. [1]

Context: the denominator matters

When a business changes shape, a headline growth rate can reflect both trading performance and what is included in the comparison. A pro forma measure can help compare a more consistent perimeter, while reported revenue remains important for understanding the actual group. Neither should silently replace the other.

What would establish durability

For streaming, the next questions are whether subscribers stay, how monetisation develops and whether the improvement persists across quarters. A single adjusted profitability measure cannot settle all three. Readers should look for consistent definitions in subsequent reports before drawing a long-term conclusion.
