An invite without WhatsApp. Events leave the chat.

WhatsApp is introducing event invitations for people without accounts and a dedicated place to organise gatherings.

WhatsApp is opening event invitations to people who do not use the app. A shared link will let them view details and confirm attendance without downloading WhatsApp or creating an account.

A new Events Home will collect invitations and attendance responses in one place. It is accessed through Settings and includes past and upcoming events that a person has created or been invited to.

Less planning scattered across messages

The changes include customised reminders and an option to bring a guest. Together, they aim to reduce the practical problem of details being buried inside a busy conversation.

The broader change is who can take part. An organiser will be able to invite someone outside the app, removing the need to persuade every guest to join the same messaging service for a single gathering.

Privacy and a gradual rollout

Phone numbers will not be shown to unfamiliar guests. People without WhatsApp will see the event address only after responding that they will attend. Personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted.

The update is rolling out over the following weeks. An announcement does not mean the new controls are already available on every phone. For now, the practical test is whether Events appears in Settings and which options an individual account has received.
