Manchester rebuilds Terminal 3. More room ahead.

New images outline a planned expansion of the departure lounge. The project is not a newly opened terminal.

Manchester Airport has released new images of its planned Terminal 3 redevelopment, giving passengers a preview of a larger departure lounge. The images were published on 5 November, following the project announcement in October.

The expansion is intended to add space, natural light, seating and new shops. The airport’s earlier announcement set completion for 2028. The renderings show an intended future layout, not facilities passengers can assume are already open.

Space for Ryanair passengers

Terminal 3 serves Ryanair, while other airlines use Terminal 2 under the airport’s current two-terminal arrangement. Passengers should still check their own booking and airline instructions rather than rely only on familiarity with an older terminal layout.

The airport has already made changes to Terminal 3’s entrance and security areas. The new expansion builds on those improvements, with the earlier plan describing about 2,000 additional square metres for the departure lounge.

A project and a journey are different things

Construction plans explain what the airport intends to provide; they do not, by themselves, establish a closure or disruption affecting a particular flight. Any operational changes need to be checked against current airport and airline notices.

For travellers, the useful details remain the departure terminal, access route, check-in requirements and live flight status. The longer-term promise is more room and facilities in Terminal 3. Delivery will be measured when those spaces are completed and brought into use.
