Volkanovski stops Evloev. Nine title-fight wins.

The Australian finished his challenger in the second round in Abu Dhabi, surpassing José Aldo’s record for UFC featherweight title-fight victories.

Alexander Volkanovski defeated Movsar Evloev by a second-round stoppage at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi on 24 October. The Australian became the first fighter to beat Evloev and the first UFC featherweight to record nine title-fight victories, moving ahead of José Aldo’s eight.

A competitive start, then a decisive finish

Evloev made the opening round competitive, landing strikes and completing takedowns. Volkanovski increased the pressure in the second, secured top position late in the round and landed unanswered punches. Referee Marc Goddard stopped the contest as the challenger could no longer defend effectively.

What the record means

The nine victories are wins in title fights across Volkanovski’s career, not nine consecutive defences of a single reign. This was his second successful defence since regaining the vacant belt in April, after losing the championship to Ilia Topuria in February 2024.

The champion’s next decision

At 38, Volkanovski again faces questions about how long he wants to continue. After the win he left the door open to more fights, without announcing a confirmed next opponent or retirement date. Evloev’s first defeat changes the immediate title picture but does not settle the division’s next booking.

Another champion retained his belt

In the co-main event, Petr Yan beat Merab Dvalishvili by unanimous decision in their third meeting to retain the bantamweight title. That result belongs to a different weight division and should not be confused with the featherweight record Volkanovski established on the same card.
