Australia via Helsinki. With a Bangkok stop.

Finnair’s planned Melbourne launch brings a new European connection via Thailand. The service is approaching its start, rather than being newly announced.

A launch approaching

Finnair’s Melbourne service is scheduled to begin from Helsinki on 25 October, with the first departure from Melbourne on 26 October. The daily Airbus A350 connection operates via Bangkok. The launch was announced earlier; the current news value is its approaching start at the change to the winter timetable, not a claim that the route has just been unveiled. [1]

One service, an intermediate stop

Helsinki–Melbourne is not a nonstop flight. Bangkok is an intermediate point, and the airline also markets the Melbourne–Bangkok sector. Travellers comparing options should look at the complete itinerary, elapsed time and connection arrangements rather than assuming a direct line on a route map means an uninterrupted flight. [3]

A passenger and cargo connection

Finnair Cargo’s October update describes the route as a new market opening and additional wide-body capacity between Australia and its network. Passenger routes also carry commercial freight, so their significance extends beyond holiday travel. Before booking, check the live timetable, operating dates and ticket conditions. A planned launch date is not evidence that the inaugural flight has already taken place. [2]
